The first recorded entrepreneur in Nevada.

Howard S. Beatie and his business partner, George W. Reese, established a trading post at the site of present-day Genoa in December of 1850, at least six months before the establishment of "Mormon's Station."  Beatie's store became the first ever "business" in Nevada, servicing wagons, selling goods, and boarding horses for the few settlers of Carson Valley, Eagle Valley, and even Lake Tahoe

Records of Howard Beatie's store shows that he sold his business at the end of 1851. The supposed location of his store is the present-day Genoa Town Hall across from the Genoa Bar.
