Big Dune is a formation of sand dunes in the Amargosa Valley (2,664'), 2.5 miles west of US 95.

The dune formation crests approximately 300 feet above the surrounding land, yet despite its size, remains relatively off the radar except for area locals and dune enthusiasts. The U.S. Geological Service has recorded that Big Dune is one of only three "singing dunes," in the United States, a rare type of dune that produces audible "booms" and other eerie sounds under the right conditions. Big Dune and its surroundings are administered by the Bureau of Land Management and open to motorized and non-motorized recreational uses for a small fee.
